WHY ÒDE YORÙBÁ Exists
ÒDE YORÙBÁ was born out of love for Yorùbá language, culture, and heritage, and a desire to keep them alive in meaningful and engaging ways.
Our culture is rich with stories, wisdom, traditions, food, games, music, and expressions that connect us to our roots. Yet, in a world that is constantly changing, creating opportunities for people to experience, appreciate, and pass on this heritage has become more important than ever.
It grew from the need to preserve our rich heritage, bring people together to experience the depth and beauty of Yorùbá culture, and create a space where we can simply be Yorùbá.
ÒDE YORÙBÁ exists to bring people closer to their roots through shared cultural experiences. It is a space where Yorùbá culture can be celebrated, explored, and enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, whether they speak Yorùbá fluently, are still learning, or simply want to discover more about the culture.
We believe that preserving a culture should go beyond talking about it. It should be something we experience, share, live, and feel.
ÒDE YORÙBÁ is a gathering of culture, connection, and identity, a place where we come together to celebrate who we are.
HOW IT BEGAN
How ÒDE YORÙBÁ Began
Every meaningful gathering begins with an idea. For ÒDE YORÙBÁ, that idea was to create a space where people could come together, experience the richness of Yorùbá culture, and simply be Yorùbá.
That vision became a reality on November 1st, 2025, with the first edition of ÒDE YORÙBÁ, held at the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan.
It was a day of cultural discovery, connection, and celebration. From enjoying Yorùbá delicacies and playing traditional games to sharing stories and exploring cultural artefacts, participants had the opportunity to engage with our heritage in a lively and memorable way.
A special part of the gathering was the museum experience, which offered participants an opportunity to explore historical and cultural artefacts and deepen their appreciation of the heritage that has shaped us. More than just an event, ÒDE YORÙBÁ 1.0 was an opportunity to connect with our roots, appreciate the richness of our traditions, and create beautiful memories together.
And that was only the beginning!
Now, ÒDE YORÙBÁ returns with its second edition, ÒDE YORÙBÁ 2.0 - The Storytelling Edition, bringing us together once again to celebrate our stories, our traditions, and the culture that connects us.
The journey continues, and there's room for you to be part of it.
